Cavitation Station

Have you noticed that Starbucks has changed the way many people talk…8 years ago did you ever hear someone say “I will take a venti double skinny soy machiato frappachino?”  In fact I was once ordering a drink, I said it wrong, and the customer in front of me turned around and explained to me the proper way to order (size first, drink type, etc.) – the “barista” just stared at me like I was from another planet for not knowing.

I see a parallel in the work that we do and the funny words we use at Health Quest.  We use a unique language, and people that love Health Quest tend to use these words as well.  Nothing makes us happier than when you start to adopt and use our “weird” vernacular.

So, this weeks term is “cavitation.”  A couple of weeks back I wrote about how using words like “crack, pop, and snap” are considered dirty words in our office.   But, there is a correct word to use when you get adjusted and you feel a pop-that noise is called a “cavitation.”

A cavitation happens when gas is released from fluid-this is what makes the popping noise when you open up a bottle of champagne.  In the case of an adjustment, when we make that small movement to align your spine, and that causes a noise-gas is released from the fluid inside of the joint space-and that noise is the “cavitation.”

So please, give it a try next time you are in and let your Doc know “great cavitation today!”
